Preparing your home for an at-home pet photography session

SFL Pet Visits · 2026-11-02 · General information only — not veterinary advice.

Photographers chase light: pick the brightest room at the session hour and open every blind. Clear surfaces in frame — remotes, cords, and clutter vanish from your attention but not from a photograph. Keep one or two meaningful props (a favorite blanket or toy) instead of many.

Time the session after a walk or play session: a pet that has burned energy but is not exhausted sits better. Have high-value treats and a squeaky toy ready, and accept the photographer's realism — the best frames are usually the unposed ones between the poses you imagined.
